Dr. A. Umesh Samuel Jebaseelan holds currently the post of Principal, C.S.I. Bishop Solomon Doraisawmy College of Arts and Science, Karur. He also served as Vice Principal – Projects in Bishop Heber College, Tiruchirappalli from June 2020 to May 2022. He served as Dean (IQAC) for 10 years from September 2005 to May 2015. He was Dean of Research and Development for the period June 2015 to May 2020. As a Teaching faculty he served as Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work, in Bishop Heber College for more than three decades. Dr. A. Umesh Samuel was a University Rank holder in MSW and has the credit of having received the first PhD degree awarded from Bharathidasan University in Social Work Discipline in 1995. He has over 33 years of teaching experience in MSW and 25years in MBA, 20 years in M.Phil and 22 years in PhD. He is a recognized guide for guiding MBA programme. He has published 96 research articles in the refereed and peer reviewed national and international journals. He has authored three books, viz., ‘Recent Trends in Social Science Research’, ‘A Handbook on Softwares for Social Science Research’ and “Recent Trends in Humanities and Social Sciences”
He is a recipient of many awards like Tamilnadu State Award for Best NSS officer (1998), Bharathidasan University Best NSS officer Award (2000) and Best Researcher Award five times (2009 , 2013 , 2014 , 2017 & 2018 ) .He has also received “Best Faculty Award in Humanities – 2013” and also received a cash award of Rs 10,000/ = from Nehru group of Institutions Coimbatore. He also received “Outstanding Faculty Award in Social Work” from Venus International Foundation in the year 2015. Recently, he received “International Best Researcher in Social Work” from RULA Research Peace Award of 2019 accredited by World Research Council in the month of August’19.
As a Research Advisor/Guide for guiding research work leading to the award of PhD degree, he has to his credit of 29 candidates awarded PhD degree in Social Work (one in Management) and more than 72 candidates awarded for M.Phil Degree. He has the credit of producing highest PhD in Social Work discipline in Tamil Nadu which is noteworthy to mention for which he received ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ from the Bishop Heber College Management.
He had been to Liverpool Hope University, UK twice to deliver lectures to the students of Social Work discipline. He served as a Project Lead, DelPHE Project, Sponsored by British Council – a collaborative research Project between Bishop Heber College, Stella Maris college, Chennai, Madras Christian College, Chennai and Liverpool Hope University, UK. He served as Honorary Project Director for Institute for Applied Social Sciences (IASS) - a UK based research Institute from 2008 – 2011.He also visited Hong Kong and Malaysia in May and August 2018 for sharing his expertise in Research in the International conferences Organized by Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong and Putura University, Malaysia.
He also served as Hon. Project Director for the GFATM round 7 –An International funded Project to train HIV Counsellors in Tamilnadu, Pondicherry and Kerala and received a grant of more than 3.5 Croes from the Global Fund and recently he received a grant of 17,500 US Dollars from United Board, Asia for training the Post Graduate Students, Research Scholars and Faculty Members in Social Science disciplines on the theme “Recent Trends in Social Science Research: An Interdisciplinary Approach” Subsequently in the year 2018 he received a grant of 10,200 US $ for another Project from United Board , Asia titled “Academic and Administrative Audit in Pursuit of Excellence in Higher Education”.
He had the credit of being the NAAC Steering Committee Coordinator twice for the Re-accreditation 2nd Cycle and 3rd cycle where Bishop Heber College was graded A + in the 2nd cycle and A (3.58 CGP) in the 3rd cycle.
