OUR FOUNDATIONS & HISTORY
Dr. Bishop Solomon Doraisawmy
Patron & Visionary (June 17, 1917 – Legacy)
Born on June 17, 1917, Bishop Solomon Doraisawmy built an impeccable academic footprint via St. Andrew’s High School, Arackonam, followed by graduation profiles from the American College, Madurai. Moving into systemic ministerial pathways, he added educational qualification layers via Meston Training College, Madras, and theological distinctions from United Theological College, Bangalore, culminating in a Bachelor of Divinity in 1947.
Consecrated as the Bishop of the prestigious Trichy-Tanjore Diocese on February 8, 1964, his visionary operational capacity elevated him to the position of Deputy Moderator of the Church of South India across three terms (1974 to 1980). He subsequently transitioned into the highest office of Moderator of the Church of South India between 1980 and 1982, piloting massive socioeconomic welfare programs.
An educational architect with brilliant foresight, he achieved the historic milestone of resurrecting Bishop Heber College after a 34-year hiatus, transforming it directly into a stellar postgraduate platform. His operational policies prioritize extending elite educational channels directly to socioeconomically marginalized cross-sections. Today, CSI Bishop Solomon Doraisawmy College of Arts and Science stands erected as a continuous monument mapping his immortal dreams and scholastic vision.
